PLEASE JOIN ME AND MANY TALENTED ARTISTS FOR ART [SQUARED], APRIL 12-13, 2019
Why you want to be there…
For $100 each, attendees can purchase 8" x 8" artworks from among more than 200 donated by anonymous creators. Some of the most sought-after artists in Louisville have work on the walls at art[squared]! In addition, there will be a silent auction of 3 larger works - one each by Richard Sullivan, LaNia Roberts, and Hawk Alfredson. How art[squared] works... Over 200 artworks line the walls of the LVA Gallery, each piece is signed on the back, leaving the front of the artwork anonymous. The exhibition is unseen by the public until the doors open at and the guests have thirty minutes to browse the artwork and seek out their favorites before purchasing begins. All works donated to art[squared] will be exhibited anonymously and sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The beauty of an anonymous exhibition is viewers will be able to respond to the artwork on its merits alone, without prejudice or preference. Each art[squared] artwork is priced at $100. As each piece is sold, the buyer learns the identity of the artist, and a placard with the selling artist's name will replace the artwork on the wall. Imagine the powerful sight of 200+ works of art and artists' names hung in support of scholarships for 1000+ young artists! Once a work is purchased, it comes off the wall to reveal the name of the generous artist whose time and talent have been donated to support exceptional art education for all in Louisville. Imagine the powerful sight of 200+ works of art and artists' names hung in support of scholarships for 1000+ young artists! All proceeds benefit the Children's Fine Art Classes offered by Louisville Visual Art since 1925. We look forward to seeing you there! |

review for Years of chaos: issues that are destroying us
My new home at kore gallery
So far, 2019 has been a great year in my artistic life! Several paintings have sold, I've had lots of new exposure, and am represented by a gallery for the first time! On February 1, 2019, I became one of a group of 24 artists represented by KORE Gallery (koreartgallery.com). KORE opened in their new space February 1 and have had two successful shows since then. They are located at 942 Kentucky Street in the Hope Mills building. There are several other galleries and studios in the space and we all hope to make the area an destination for art in the city.

2019 - faces
Those of you who follow my work know that I love working in large formats and usually reserve smaller works for commissioned portraits. Well, my studio is filled with boxes from a storage unit and it's too cold out there to work on big paintings right now so I'm indulging my love of painting faces and using up some smaller canvases. Enjoy!

JENNIFER - SECOND ALLEY GALLERY PAINTING.

JUNE 2018
TOPS LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE, JUNE 2018
A one-year-old program launched by the Louisville Downtown Partnership has turned more than a hundred ugly and unnoticed doors into an urban museum of local artists. It’s just another example of the creativity that makes our city so unique.
Some see a downtown alley and see an eyesore. Others see potential for urban revival and self-expression. That’s what Louisville Downtown Partnership envisioned when they launched a program that pairs local artists and sponsors with sometimes unsightly service doors to use as public blank canvases. “This program rejuvenates forgotten spaces within our downtown and allows us to showcase hidden treasures created by our talented local artists,” says Rebecca Matheny, Executive Director of LDP. “There are more than 300 service doors within the Central Business District that qualify for the program.”
In just one year, the program has transformed 103 of them with work by 59 local artists. The artists receive not only an opportunity to produce a work of art that becomes part of our city’s vibrant landscape, but they also receive compensation for their work; more than $32,000 has been raised and distributed to local artists through the program. So far, nineteen community sponsors have become involved—including PARC, Fourth Street Live!, Riverside Parking, Mariott Downtown, Louisville Convention and Visitor’s Burea, Hyatt Regency, Mulloy Real Estate, Hardscuffle Inc., Louisville Water Company and Congressman John and Cathy Yarmuth— and many sponsor multiple doors.
The initiative has worked so well that it has expanded to include air vents and walls. Says Matheny, “We have limitless options to enhance the downtown aesthetic thanks to the generosity of our Downtown stakeholders and the extraordinarily gifted artist community we have in Louisville.”

Thank you to everyone who believed that my art was a worthy holiday gift. I appreciate every one of you and hope to see you in the new year! In 2018 I'm hoping to live like Pete Seeger's message about art on his banjo -
"This machine surrounds hate and forces it to surrender."

In case you missed it last week, Bob and Tom were featured on Artebella Vignettes. See the quote below and follow this link for the whole article: http://www.louisvillevisualart.org/artebella/2016/11/4/vignette-bob-jones
"Even when working figuratively, Jones’ color palette tends to darkness, so we see none of the well-lit, carefree escapades of a flourishing middle class that we find in Cannady’s images. Even though we are only looking at their work together because of circumstance, it is a tantalizing thought that the two might be working two sides of the same street; Cannady capturing the warm nostalgia for a time that seems deceptively simpler, a period that often is held up as an ideal of American morality, while Jones probes the inevitable heart of darkness lurking beneath the surface of that rose-colored memory."
